Baccarat, (pronounced Back-a-arah), is considered to be the oldest of all casino card games. It is believed that it has its origins in Italy, having made its way over to France during the reign of Charles VIII of France (1483-1498).

There are three different ways to play Baccarat: Baccarat chemin de fer (railway), Baccarat banque (deux tableaux) and the North American version, Punto banco. The game of baccarat is rather simple as it has only three possible bets and three results: either the banker wins, or the player wins or there is a tie. The terms banker and player are betting possibilities and do not refer to the actual player or the casino.

What makes Baccarat unique is that in any score of double digits the first digit is dropped. For example a score of ten would actually be a score of zero or baccarat. The highest score that can be achieved is nine. Thus, two picture cards would equal zero and a nine and a six card would equal a score of five. An ace in baccarat equals one but the other cards in the deck keep their face value.
